Sydney Design Week

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.- The Powerhouse Museum presents Sydney Design Week 7 - 17 August 2003. The business of design is more than creativity and the cult of the personality. It is about connections between makers, markets and manufacturers. Get caught in the international conversations in this year’s Sydney Design Week program.
The program includes the hip UK design exhibition Great Expectations (see separate release), the winning entries from The Sydney Morning Herald Young Designer of the Year Award, a selection of Australian Design Awards, the Indigenous designers for Balarinji and historic Pugin, plus a host of public programs featuring some of the most significant international designers and commentators of today coupled with Australian designers attracting international attention.
Take design beyond the studio and into the world market!

Beyond travel…
Paul Priestman, of Priestman Goode, is a prominent UK designer featured in Great Expectations. Hear Paul, product, environment and transport designer, discuss his work that includes designing a new fleet of trains for Virgin. The brief included translating Virgin’s brand identity into all aspects of the passenger experience. Super Voyager and Virgin Pendolino are more than trains.
“When we were designing it, we were trying to recapture some of the romance of rail travel like in the opening scenes of Some Like It Hot…”
Paul Priestman
