Sotheby's appoints Julian King as International Specialist and Carrie Li as Senior Specialist

HONG KONG.- Sotheby’s today announces the appointment of Julian King as International Specialist and Carrie Li as Senior Specialist (Greater China) of the Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art department. Together Mr. King and Ms. Li possess nearly three decades of experience in the art and auction business as well as strong and extensive relationships with clients and dealers worldwide. Based in Hong Kong, Mr. King and Ms. Li will report to Nicolas Chow, Sotheby’s International Head of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art. With their solid expertise and experience, Mr. King and Ms. Li will bring added strength to Sotheby's international team of Chinese art specialists and further enhance service to our clients in the region and beyond, thereby strengthening the Company’s leadership in the field.

Nicolas Chow, Sotheby’s International Head of Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art and Deputy Chairman of Sotheby’s Asia, says, “Julian King and Carrie Li each bring to Sotheby's a wealth of experience in the field of Chinese ceramics garnered over more than a decade. Their strong relationships with some of the most prominent collectors in Greater China as well as Europe and America will be invaluable to our department.”

Mr. King began his career in the art industry over twelve years ago and has developed strong client relationships in Asia as well as Europe and America. After working as a cataloguer of ceramics and works of art Sotheby's London from 2000 to 2004, where he trained under Julian Thompson, the late Chairman of Sotheby's Asia, Mr. King went on to spend a brief period of time at a professional services firm before returning to the world of Chinese art at an auction house in London and then relocating to Hong Kong in 2008, where he headed their Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art department.

Ms. Li has worked in an international auction house since 1998, developing close relationships with clients and dealers especially in China, and bringing with her a wealth of experience in the international market encompassing business getting, appraisals, client advisory, exhibition and auction. Ms. Li is also a trained auctioneer and has helped a number of charitable organisations in China raise funds through charity auctions.

Sotheby’s Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art Department has grown tenfold over the last decade. Its auctions in Hong Kong, London, New York and Paris turned over US$400 million in 2011, making it the leader in the field.
