NEW YORK, NY.- On November 6 and 7, 2013, the
Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum celebrated the 2013 Guggenheim International Gala honoring artists James Turrell, whose exhibition including the rotunda installation Aten Reign was featured at the museum from June 21 through September 25, 2013, and Christopher Wool, whose retrospective opened on October 25, 2013 and remains on view through January 22, 2014. Over $2.8 million was raised in support of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. The 2013 Guggenheim International Gala was made possible by Dior.
The November 7 benefit dinner included Honorary Chairs Allison and Howard Lutnick, Raf Simons, Jennifer Blei Stockman, Sidney Toledano, and Co-Chairs Christina Baker, Virginie and Laurent Degryse, Phyllis Mack, Nancy Marks, Jacqueline and Mortimer Sackler, and Denise Saul. The Gala Benefit Auction through Paddle8 featured a sale of four artworks, by William Eggleston, On Kawara, François-Xavier Lalanne, and James Turrell, during the dinner event. Proceeds benefit the museums general operating fund, and help to make possible the Guggenheims innovative educational programs as well as the care, study, and exhibition of its unparalleled collections of modern and contemporary works of art.
On November 6, the 2013 Guggenheim International Gala Pre-Party, hosted by the Guggenheims Young Collectors Council and made possible by Dior, featured a special musical performance by electronic music ambassador / DJ Richie Hawtin (aka Plastikman).
