LOS ANGELES, CA.- On December 9, Bonhams will give collectors the opportunity to bid on a broad selection of items from 15th century to early 20th century English, French and Continental furniture; porcelain from the Meissen, Sèvres and K.P.M. Berlin factories; Italian and American carved marble figures and busts; French animalier bronzes and grand pianos by famed makers Erard, Steinway and Bösendorfer. These are some of the notable items in the auction as well as those belonging to prominent estates and collections.

One of the featured collections in the auction come from the eclectic Property of the Universal City Studios, LLC consisting of 60 lots, including an imposing French gilt bronze mounted mahogany commode circa from 1900 (est. $20,000-30,000). Additionally, the Collection of Candy and Aaron Spelling boasts of furniture and decorative arts all showcasing the couples' love of formal and provincial French design. The star items from this collection are two almost life-size late 19th century finely carved Italian marble statues of nude females both with estimates between $15,000-20,000.

Works by Alfred Beurdeley, Antoine Kreiger, François Linke, Adrien-Pierre Dupain, Maison Millet and Joseph Zweiner will be of particular interest to bidders within the French furniture section of the auction. A late 19th century fine quality Louis XV style gilt bronze mounted lacquered and ebonized bureau plat by Beurdeley (est. $80,000 - 120,000) was based on a model by Nicolas Pierre Séverin, well-known under the appellation "bureau de l'abbé Terray", previously in the Ministère des Finances, now in the Musée du Louvre since 1924.

Another unique Louis XV furniture piece is a gilt bronze mounted marquetry inlaid kingwood vitrine by Zweiner (est. $30,000 - 40,000). He became one of the first cabinetmakers in France to collaborate with the sculptor Léon Messagé around 1880. Messagé's influence added a distinctly Art Nouveau tone to Zwiener's work, which would later be taken to its apogee by François Linke. The unusual bronzes of the present vitrine - determinedly asymmetrical and with daring, flame-like coronas - are most certainly the fruit of this collaboration.

Of the porcelain works available in the auction, an exquisitely fine, late 19th century Sèvres style gilt bronze mounted porcelain vase will also be offered with an estimate of $80,000 - 120,000. The quality of the bronze and painting on the vase are outstanding, suggesting the work of a major Parisian workshop. Additionally, a handful of Meissen porcelain figures and tableware as well as porcelain plaques by K.P.M. are also offered and have a range in estimates between $1,000-15,000.

Lastly, a selection of carved marble busts will appear on the block, more specifically, a highlight from American Hiram Powers' workshop circa 1863, estimated at $7,000-9,000. Not to mention there are also French animalier bronzes including a patinated bronze model of a group of dogs on a rabbit hunt (Chasse au lapin) after a model by Pierre Jules-Mêne, estimated at $1,200-1,500.
