MONTREAL.- Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal announces that Chuck Samuels is leaving his post as Director General. After managing 6 successful editions of the biennale of contemporary photography, Mr. Samuels looks forward to new challenges within the cultural milieu including focusing more on his own work as an artist. For the time being he will stay on as Interim Director with a mandate to ensure a smooth transition for the organization.

Since 2002 Chuck Samuels has been the director of Le Mois de la Photo à Montréal and the organization has had many accomplishments during his tenure. These achievements include putting into place dynamic and distinctive artistic approach, producing 6 publicly and critically acclaimed editions of the event (including the exhibitions, the publications, the public programs and other activities) that have collectively attracted more than 1.1 million visitors and have won a number of prestigious prizes and accolades, expanding the international reputation of the event, and making an important contribution to the promotion and appreciation of contemporary photography.

“Over the years I have had the privilege of working with an array of amazing artists, curators, partners, financial institutions, donors, board members, but, above all, a series of outstanding production teams,” says Chuck Samuels. “While I will miss the excitement of the event, I look forward to calmer waters and to passing the torch to a new director. Thanks to the combined efforts of the board, the direction and the staff, I will be handing over an organization with an experienced and dedicated core team, an excellent reputation and a sturdy structure that will contribute the realization of a remarkable14th edition and one that will be ready to meet the challenges of the future.”

On behalf of the board of directors, president Diane Charbonneau wishes to thank Chuck Samuels for his dedicated work for the organization during the last 12 years: “His passion for contemporary photography and his administrative rigor has allowed the biennale to professionalize. He is giving over an institution in good financial health and can move on with a feeling of accomplishment. We offer him our gratitude and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.” In the coming days Le Mois de la Photo à Montreal will launch a call for candidates for the new Director General who will start in Spring 2014.
