NEW YORK, NY.- Heskin Contemporary is presenting an exhibition Whose Woods These Are, new works by Lisa Stefanelli.

In her current exhibition, Lisa Stefanelli has made a departure from painting and focused on what was outside her studio window. These manipulated photographs of the forest with their mark making dots (or as the artists refers to as litanies) are just that, litanies, lists or prayers. The concept of touching every bark and branch nourishes and acknowledges every thought they possess.

As the artist explains in a recent Q & A included in a catalog adjoining the exhibition...

I had spent many years walking through this forest, the one depicted in this series, with my husband and my dog. It is a forest I wandered as a child, so it felt familiar. The woods were a great source of wonder. There were many topics to consider-a forest is a hearty springboard for contemplation on many levels. I had a feeling that the woods were going to give me something, that I would take something away from them, as an artist, and I only needed to be patient to understand what that "something" was.

Lisa Stefanelli was born in New Jersey and lives and works in New York City and Pennsylvania. She completed her BA at the Rhode Island School of Design, Provenance, RI (1989). Her work is the collections of in the The Albright-Knox Museum, Buffalo, New York, The Rose Art Museum, Brandeis University, Waltham, MA and the The Wynn Collection, to name a few. This is Lisa's second solo exhibition at Heskin Contemporary.
