AMSTERDAM.- The ninth edition of Art in Redlight (AiR9) is to take place at the end of this year in the Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam. This multidisciplinary arts festival presents design, visual arts, music, photography, dance, video, light installations and debate. AiR9 celebrates and connects the arts, together with over 200 idiosyncratic and talented artists and performers.
Visual arts
During AiR9, 15 galleries will present installations by their artists. The Beurs van Berlage offers the opportunity to present something grand, and that is exactly what is going to happen this December. In one of the halls, artists David Bade, Robert Roelink, Airco Caravan and Midas Zwaan will present large three-dimensional art works. Another hall presents 60 stands by individual artists, such as Jan Hoek and Barbara Polderman. Most of the artists will be present during AiR9, and will be available to talk with visitors about their work. The work will also be for sale. Debates
During AiR9 there will be debate and dialogue about the character of todays art world. From 27 through 30 December between 3 PM and 4 PM, AiR9 is to host dialogue and debate about the economical, social, cultural and activist value of art. These talks will be revealing and personal, serving to make contemporary art more accessible and to get to know the creators of art. Moreover, this programme aims to reflect on the current changes in the art world. To this end, AiR9 has invited leading thinkers, artists and journalists with particular views on current developments, such as Cees Hamelink (professor, University of Amsterdam), Mike Unrau (performer and teacher, Canada), Michael Huyser (curator, Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi), Özkan Gölpinar (writer) and Nat Muller (journalist). The conversations will be introduced through short philosophical reflections on topics such as art as a commodity, new democratic art forms, and art as activism.
Morning programme
From 27 through 30 December, visitors can attend lessons in yoga, tango and tapdance. These group classes are planned between 11 AM and 1 PM. The full programme will be available on the website from 2 December.
General
The debates, performances and morning programme are part of the regular AiR9 programme; they do not require a separate ticket.
