PARIS.- The Galerie des Enfants is featuring «Frida and I»: an exhibition-workshop on Frida Kahlo, designed as a space where children of 5 to 10 can discover the artists world.
In a poetic circuit that can be followed in any order, various fun set-ups immerse them in the work and life of the celebrated Mexican artist. Through her self-portraits used to trigger the imagination of small visitors , children are encouraged to think about identity, cultures and the perception and representation of the self, as they create, seek and observe in hands-on situations.
The staging of this exhibition-workshop an idea dreamed up by Les Sismo Designers - offers a contemporary reinterpretation of the artists sources of inspiration, which included her country, nature, her daily environment and memories of popular and pre-Columbian culture.
Children will gain insights into Fridas life, her work and the marvellous, colourful world of Mexico through themes they can relate to, like «my family and I», «my self-portrait», «nature», «my pain», «my travels» and «my friendships».
Produced in partnership with the Mexican Instituto Guerrense de la Cultura, the exhibition-workshop is also being presented in Acapulco in November 2013 for the inauguration of the Casa de los Vientos, with its murals by Diego Rivera.
