NEW YORK, NY.- The Jewish Museum in New York City is launching the first annual JM26, a thought-provoking and entertaining list of 26 events, people, and ideas that have made a mark in 2013. From an activist bar mitzvah boy arguing for marriage equality to limited edition Katz's Deli sneakers and President Obama visiting Israel, JM26 items range from pop culture trends to geopolitical events and from whimsical to provocative – providing a diverse global look at 21st century Jewish experience.

The JM26 is available at a new, dynamic website: JM26.org. Selections include:

• Happy Thanksgivukkah…Gobble Tov! – The convergence of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah had everything: latkes with cranberries, pilgrims with payot, and a furious debate about the lunar calendar.

• Bieber Hoped Anne Frank Would Have Been a Belieber – Justin Bieber sparked controversy during a visit to the Anne Frank House.

• Jewish Superheroes Unite! – Speculation that Doctor Who was Jewish, the casting of Israeli actress Gal Gadot to play Wonder Woman, and more.

• New Pope – Art lover, Chagall fan, and Person of the Year.

• Kosher Sin? – Smokes, spirits, and sex all tested the boundaries of kosher sin this year.

• $1 Billion Nazi Art Horde Revealed – The art world was stunned when German tax authorities revealed they had discovered 1,400 major works of art hidden in a Munich apartment.

• JewGlass: Tech Meets Tradition – "Jewish Guide for Glass" is the first Jewish app designed for Google Glass and one of a new breed of high tech aids to religious observance.

Released on December 26, the JM26 references 26 ceremonial objects with which The Jewish Museum was founded in 1904. The number 26 also has significance in Kabbalah, a form of Jewish mysticism.
