NEW YORK, NY.- Throckmorton Fine Art will be presenting an important selection of Pre-Columbian art and artifacts at the 60th Annual Winter Antiques Show. This is the gallerys 28th year participating in New Yorks best known art fair.
Spencer Throckmorton says, The Winter Antiques Show has attracted the attention of leading curators and private collectors for decades. As dealers in Pre-Columbian artifacts we are delighted to see the top echelon of connoisseurs and experts in the field visiting our stand at this annual mid-winter event.
We have been fortunate to acquire a number of Pre-Columbian artifacts from private collections, including several in California. The masks, yokes and figures we selected are vetted examples and come with scientific and scholarly reports.
Kraige Block, Executive Director of Throckmorton, adds that, This years WINTER ANTIQUES SHOW exhibition includes important Mayan artworks, among them a Mosaic Mask in jade dating to 600-900 BCE, as well as a greenstone Mezcala Monkey figure over ten inches tall, and a hardstone Mayan Hacha that had been in the Santa Fe collection of Michael Robbins. The Mayan mask is jade with original shell and obsidian inlays and cinnabar pigment. It is three inches high and was in the New York collections of Ramis Barquet and the Marin Gallery.
We are also pleased to have a late Classic Polychrome Ceramic Vessel from the collection of Baleen McCormick c600-900 CE, and a wood Fang head from the late 19th early/ 20th century that had also been in the McCormick collection as well as in the Parisian collection of Charles Ratton, and the private collection of S. These are just a few of the rarities on view at the stand of Throckmorton Fine Art.
