DUSSELDORF.- Starting 5 April 2014 Düsseldorf will be all about art. Under the theme Beyond Tomorrow, Quadriennale Düsseldorf 2014 invites visitors to explore the future together.

In a diverse range of exhibitions, thirteen museums, art venues and partner institutions will show visions of the future from the artists’ point of view. These stories about tomorrow will be told on the basis of the materials artists use, demonstrating how much (future) fantasies often revolve around questions of processing and mastering matter. The festival of fine arts, held every four years, will extend out into the cityscape this time with an extensive programme of events, inspiring residents and visitors to set off until 10 August on their own personal discovery tour of the art city of Düsseldorf.

Quadriennale Düsseldorf is a fine arts festival that has taken place in Düsseldorf every four years since 2006 for a period of several months. The Quadriennale GmbH, which is a fully owned subsidiary of the State Capital of Düsseldorf, has been responsible since 2008 for organising the festival. The managing directors of the Quadriennale GmbH are Hans-Georg Lohe and Angela Eckert-Schweizer. Under a jointly developed theme, the city’s renowned art museums, exhibition spaces and galleries present unique showcases, presentations and an extensive programme of events. Partners from other sectors are invited to take part in the festival. The first Quadriennale took place in 2006 under the theme “The Body in Art” (380,000 visitors); in 2010 the theme was “Presence in Art” (250,000 visitors). The theme for the Quadriennale in 2014 is “Beyond Tomorrow”, for the implementation of which the State Capital of Düsseldorf has set aside a budget of over four million euros.
