The Knightsbridge Estate unveils new lighting scheme
The scheme, which extends along 1,100 ft of frontage, gives a prominence and identity to The Estate.

LONDON.- The Knightsbridge Estate has completed a spectacular façade lighting scheme that extends along Brompton Road, Sloane Street and Hans Crescent. Its completion is part of an extensive programme of improvements to the Estate’s architecture and public realm – and marks the end of the first phase of a transformation that will enhance The Estate’s status as one of London’s key luxury destinations.

The scheme, which extends along 1,100 ft of frontage, gives a prominence and identity to The Estate that will widen its growing attraction to premium retailers and consumers. The design accentuates the architectural features of The Estate’s striking, nineteenth-century architecture, enriching the character of the area. It uses regular patterns of focused beams of light to bring out the rich complexity of the individual facades, with over 70% of the fittings being custom made. Maida Hot, MD of GIA Equation who created the lighting design, comments “The Estate makes an integral, stunning contribution to Knightsbridge and our design had to reflect both its prestigious environment and the quality of its architecture. The results, we think, are exceptional.”

The other primary aim was to pioneer efficiency and flexibility in lighting design. Each of the thousand luminaires is a state-of-the-art, low-energy, high-output lamp that can be individually and remotely adjusted. A central control system automatically senses daylight levels to turn lights on and uses a time clock programme to turn decorative lighting off during the night, minimising energy requirements.

The Knightsbridge Estate is one of London's most exciting destinations. Renowned for its wealthy, international visitors and residents, it offers a vibrant, high-profile location in the heart of the capital's most prestigious postcode.

Situated between two of the world's most famous retail icons, Harvey Nichols and Harrods, the Estate is bounded by Brompton Road and Sloane Street - exclusive shopping magnets in their own right - while being a stone's throw from beautiful Hyde Park and cultural icons such as the Royal Albert Hall and V & A.

The Knightsbridge Estate provides almost half a million sq ft of retail, office, hotel and residential space and is an integral part of a location that has thrived for over 500 years and whose rich architectural heritage is clearly visible.
