SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Brian Gross Fine Art announces a solo exhibition of recent work by Bay Area artist Freddy Chandra, opening January 4. The exhibition, Tuning In, features the luminous and sculptural wall works made of cast acrylic and resin, for which Chandra is well known. Tuning In will be on view through February 21, 2014.

Chandra’s new body of work that will be exhibited contains uneven rows of painted acrylic bars set in staggered compositions. Both horizontal and vertical works will be included. The acrylic bars are arranged in specific dynamic relationships to each other. Often moving outward from thicker bars to thinner, Chandra creates a movement, which extends beyond the defined perimeter of the composition.

Freddy Chandra is a member of the adjunct faculty at Mills College, and has previously been a Summer Session Lecturer at UC Berkeley. He is a recipient of a 2009 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant. He has also previously received a 2006 Kala Art Institute Fellowship, a Project Space Residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts in 2007, and a residency at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in 2009. He completed an MFA at Mills College in 2004 and received a BA in Architecture and Art Practice at the University of California, Berkeley in 2002. Chandra lives and works in Oakland, California. This is his second exhibition at Brian Gross Fine Art.
