BOYNTON BEACH, FLA.- A large and important 19th century Chinese porcelain screen, an extraordinary and intricately carved Chinese red coral figural grouping and a gorgeous pair of 19th century Japanese bronze and mixed metal floor vases are just a few of the lots bidders will be vying for at Elite Decorative Arts’ Fine Asian Carvings & Works of Art Auction, on June 14.

The auction will be held at Elite Decorative Arts’ gallery, located in the Quantum Town Center at 1034 Gateway Boulevard (Suites 106-108) in Boynton Beach, starting promptly at 1 p.m., Eastern time. Offered will be 300 lots of Chinese works (to include jade carvings and red coral carvings, antique porcelain vases, chargers and plaques, cloisonné, silver, bronze and paintings.

Also sold will be Japanese works, to include 19th century shrines, bronze shubas, cloisonné, porcelain pieces and more. For those unable to attend, internet bidding will be facilitated by LiveAuctioneers.com. Phone and absentee bids will also be accepted. Previews will be held on Friday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday, the date of sale, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The large 19th century Chinese porcelain screen had actually been offered at a previous Elite Decorative Arts auction, but the winning bidder was overzealous and couldn’t make good on payment. But his loss will be someone else’s gain, when it comes up for bid a second time. It has been assigned a pre-sale estimate of $30,000-$40,000, but it is expected to easily exceed that.

The lot consists of four large panels mounted in a carved wooden frame. Each panel is famille rose, with mountain scenes and elders. Overall, the screen is 38 ½ inches by 46 ¾ inches. It has a top row of small porcelain plaques (each one 9 ½ inches by 3 ½ inches), and side rows of small porcelain plaques (each 11 ½ inches by 3 ½ inches), plus inner and outer large porcelain plaques.

The large and intricately carved Chinese red coral figural group is 15 ½ inches tall and depicts a family tree, with birds and a fabulous carved flower arrangement. The lot, which comes with a two-inch wooden base, is one of the finest carved figural groupings Elite Decorative Arts has ever offered – and it has offered many in past auctions. It is expected to fetch $20,000-$30,000.

Many Chinese and Japanese vases will cross the auction block on June 14th. One lot expected to electrify the crowd is an exceptional pair of 19th century Japanese bronze and mixed metal floor vases, each one standing 30 inches tall (est. $14,000-$18,000). The mid-to-early 19th century vases boast gold peacocks to the front, with rooster handles with niello trim both top and bottom.

A pair of Chinese plaques has identical pre-sale estimates of $4,000-$6,000. One is an imperial 18th century blue and white plaque depicting a river scene through the mountains, mounted on a newer reticulated frame. The other is a hand-painted enameled porcelain plaque attributed to He Xu Red, with a calligraphy poem and a winter scene depicting trees, river, boatsman and temple.

Chinese carved coral Quan Yin figures are always a hit with collectors. This auction will feature a large antique Quan Yin with children, 6 ½ inches tall, with great carved detailing of a bird of paradise holding a necklace to the back of the Quan Yin’s head (est. $2,500-$3,500). Another is a 7-inch-tall Quan Yin in a beautifully carved gown standing on flowers (est. $1,500-$2,500).

Jade pieces will feature a rare 18th century Chinese enameled copper jade handled pot from the Qing Dynasty, with a raised floral enameled design having a white jade carved dragon handle (est. $2,000-$3,000); and an equally scarce 19th century Chinese silver hand mirror with dragon jade handle, 8 inches tall with a large carved 3-inch jade floral disk at the top (est. $800-$1,200).

Returning to vases, a large 18th or 19th century Chinese jadeite vase, 12 ½ inches tall and sitting on a 2-inch wooden base, has a pre-sale estimate of $6,000-$8,000. Also, an important Satsuma palatial vase from the Meiji period (1868-1912), made circa 1900, 45 inches tall and depicting a Geisha in a garden, with gold floral overlay on cobalt ground, should realize $4,000-$5,000.

A pair of 18th century Satsuma floor vases depicting many panel pictures of elders, each vase measuring 18 ½ inches tall, with no signature to the base, is expected to reach $4,000-$6,000. Also, an 18th or 19th century Imari porcelain floor vase, 24 inches tall, with beautiful orange, blue and red coloring, originally bought at an auction gallery in New York, should hit $3,000-$4,000.

A 19th century Chinese lavender jade covered vase, 10 ½ inches tall, with foo dog final scrolled handles down the side of the vase and beautiful lavender veins throughout, is expected to make $2,000-$3,000; while a pair of 19th or 20th century famille rose covered vases, 17 ½ inches tall, depicting people in a courtyard and with a floral design, is estimated to hammer for $600-$800.

Rounding out just some of the day’s expected top lots, a Chinese silver dragon footed bowl, 7 ½ inches across and 4 ¼ inches tall, with panels of dragons and people plus two dragon handles, should breeze to $400-$600; and an antique Japanese Tsuba Samurai sword guard made of 22kt gold, bronze and copper, depicting a puppeteer and a rat in a kimono, should garner $350-$450.
