NEW YORK, NY.- In advance of the summer season, Bonhams looks forward to presenting a stand-out auction of Fine Jewelry on June 17 at its Manhattan saleroom.

Leading the auction will be a Ruser diamond solitaire ring, set with a 9.08 carat, cut cornered, rectangular step-cut diamond with an estimated 1.50 carats of tapered, baguette-cut diamond shoulders (est. $400,000-600,000). Bonhams will offer this ring among nearly 60 lots of jewelry from the collection of Los Angeles luminary Onnalee Olson Doheny.

Mrs. Doheny (1919-2013) was a Los Angeles native, widely recognized for her extensive and generous philanthropic work throughout the community. Among additional highlights on offer from her collection is a pair of Ruser diamond earclips, each designed as an articulated round brilliant-cut diamond cascade, at a weight of 20.00 carats (est. $30,000-50,000).

Susan Abeles, Bonhams’ Head of U.S. Jewelry, commented, “This sale provides a rare opportunity to acquire a ring by legendary jewelry designer William Ruser, one of the most sought after jewelers in Hollywood in the 1950s and 60s, who was known for his fine craftsmanship. Bonhams is honored to offer this ring and many other beautiful pieces from the collection of Onnalee Olson Doheny.”

The sale will also feature fantastic diamond rings of note from various owners, such as a 7.09 carat diamond solitaire ring, set with a cut-cornered, rectangular step-cut, natural faint pink diamond, flanked by 1.10 carats of tapered baguette-cut diamonds (est. $240,000-300,000); a fancy colored diamond and diamond ring, set with a 5.01 carat cushion modified brilliant-cut fancy vivid yellow diamond, within a crossover mounting with 3 carats of pavé set colorless and yellow diamonds (est. $225,000-325,000); and a ruby and diamond ring centering a 7.61 carat oval-cut diamond, flanked by 2 carats of half moon-cut diamonds with circular-cut diamond trim (est. $150,000-250,000). Diamond solitaire rings by Tiffany & Co. (est. $65,000-85,000) and Cartier (est. $35,000-45,000) will also be offered.

Extraordinary necklaces, brooches, ear clips and bracelets are also bountiful in the sale, with many pieces signed. Van Cleef & Arpels offerings include a natural pearl and diamond brooch, 1950, designed as a pavé-set diamond floral motif cluster (est. $140,000-160,000) and a pair of 'Mystery-Set' sapphire and diamond earclips, with each designed as a calibré-cut sapphire flowerhead, centering circular-cut diamond pistils (est. $115,000-125,000). A Cartier gem-set and diamond 'Meli Melo" necklace and pendant earrings (est. $30,000-50,000) and a Bulgari peridot, citrine and diamond bracelet, designed as a wide cuff (est. $30,000-50,000) also stand out.

Additionally sure to spark interest is a fancy colored diamond and colorless diamond necklace, featuring 23 pear shaped fancy light and light yellow diamonds within a surround of circular-cut diamonds, accentuated with 10 pear shaped diamonds, within a mount of circular cut diamonds (est. $215,000-250,000).

Virginia Salem, the Director of the Jewelry Department at Bonhams in New York, commented, “We are excited to offer such a comprehensive collection of fine signed jewels for June.”
