ISTANBUL.- Selma Gürbüz is presenting her new solo exhibition, “Daydream” at Rampa from June 4th through July 12th. In this exhibition we have Gürbüz’s 2014 works of photographs and light boxes and we can see how she has continued in the same vein as her most recent work of almost web like canvas paintings of nature, but now on a different medium.

This exhibition, that is taking place in Rampa’s street level gallery, presents new works incorporating photographs Gürbüz has taken on her trips to India. In the beginning these photographs were a way for the artist to document her trips, but as they made way to more abstract images, the idea for this exhibition was born. With unmanipulated photographs of an extremely dense forest full of very tall tropical trees, Gürbüz relates to us the feeling of being lost in that untouched space, preserving the act of being within nature, as well as being a part of it. The weblike branches, intertwining vines and shadows of the wild habitat in Gürbüz’s photographs transport the viewer into the artist’s personal and mysterious world. These new works make reference to her own meticulously crafted ink on paper designs and also reminds us of her storybook animal and human figures.

Selma Gürbüz (1960) was born in İstanbul, Turkey. After having studied at Exeter College of Art Design between 1980-1982, she graduated from Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty in 1984. Her recent solo exhibitions include “Long Night.
