Biennial of the Americas introduces Lauren Wright as Artistic Director and Curator
Wright returns to her hometown of Denver, Colorado, following nearly nine years in the UK.



DENVER, CO.- Denver-based Biennial of the Americas has named Lauren Wright as Artistic Director and Curator. The 2015 Biennial of the Americas will take place in Denver, Colorado, July 14 through September 7, 2015.

“Lauren's brings an important mix of international exposure and passion for the local community to her work with the Biennial. We expect Lauren to be a great resource for Denver's arts community as well as the Biennial," said Erin Trapp, Biennial CEO/Executive Director.

Wright returns to her hometown of Denver, Colorado, following nearly nine years in the UK. From 2010 to 2014, Wright served as Curator at Turner Contemporary in Margate, UK, where she curated solo and group exhibitions featuring a range of international artists including: Tracey Emin, Conrad Shawcross, and Rosa Barba. Wright holds a degree in Art History from Northwestern University and Ph.D in Humanities and Cultural Studies from the London Consortium, University of London,

Previously, Wright served as Assistant Director of Furtherfield.org, a London-based organization for art, technology and social change, and undertook independent curatorial projects for Tate, Hayward Gallery Touring, and the Institute of Contemporary Art. She has lectured at Tate Modern; Birkbeck, University of London; and Canterbury Christchurch University. Her writing has appeared in Frieze, Crossings: A Counter-Disciplinary Journal, and Critical Quarterly among other publications.

“Lauren is a rare curator because she both understands quality contemporary art and embraces community involvement,” said Adam Lerner, Executive Director of the MCA and Biennial board member. “She embodies what we value in Denver and at the Biennial.”
