ROTTERDAM.- You can follow the making of the exhibition ‘The Future of Fashion is Now’ online. On the dedicated website www.futureoffashion.nl the fashion scouts, designers and the curator provide an insight into the process behind Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s major autumn exhibition. The website is an initiative of Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge and is a first for the museum.

Specially for the exhibition, six designers have been invited to make new works that blur the distinction between fashion and art. The new website provides an opportunity for these designers to share their creative process with the public. Fashion experts including Karin Swerink (editor-in-chief of Dutch Vogue), José Teunissen (Professor of Fashion Design at ArtEZ) and fashion duo Viktor&Rolf discuss the exhibition’s themes with the designers. What possibilities do innovative technologies offer young fashion designers? Is the current fashion system of two collections per year really desirable? These online discussions will feed into the exhibition at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, which opens on 11 October 2014.

International network
The website gives visual form to the international network of young designers and scouts who are actively searching for innovations within the fashion system. From Brazil to Serbia and from Nigeria to India, they will share their vision of the future of fashion.

Exhibition
‘The Future of Fashion is Now’ takes the visitor on a journey into the most innovative fashion from all over the world. It brings together the work of approximately fifty designers, from famous names such as Viktor&Rolf (The Netherlands), Christophe Coppens (Belgium), Craig Green (United Kingdom) and Hussein Chalayan (Cyprus) to young emerging talent. The exhibition explores the critical position that designers adopt in relation to the fashion system and the role of clothing in contemporary society. The selection, including clothing, accessories, videos and installations, will be shown in the museum’s 1500m2 main exhibition space.

Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge
Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge is an initiative of the writer, patron and art activist Han Nefkens and fashion expert José Teunissen in partnership with Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. Its mission is to stimulate and support talented fashion designers working on the border between fashion and art. It initiates commissions and supports research into innovation and change in the fashion scene. The Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge Award gives designers the opportunity to create new works, which are then given on long-term loan to the museum.
