HAVANA.- “Fidel is Fidel” the photographic exhibition by Roberto Chile, opened this Tuesday in the Jose Marti Memorial, in Havana, as a salute to the 88th birthday of the leader of the Cuban revolution. People in Habana will be able to enjoy it until the 28th of September.

A big part of the images are in black and white as a tribute to Alberto Korda, Raul Corrales, Ernesto Fernandez, Osvaldo and Roberto Salas and Liborio Noval, among other renowned photographers that captured the revolutionary spirit. In the exhibition, one can also appreciate “a color photograph printed on fabric: The star of Fidel, which is about two meters long, and theat has been placed in the center of the showroom, surrounded by plants that help the exhibition mark the live green of the country’s vegetation”, assured Chile.

Chile worked during 25 years in the image registry of the Fidel movement, and has now chosen the still images “to hold in time the epic symbol of an iconic man who fought all his life.”

According to Chile, although the exhibition was made for Cubans, it is being presented simultaneously in Havana and the Art Stalker Gallery in Berlin, Germany. “There are audiovisual projections in both galleries that remind us of the revolutionary endeavors of Fidel throughout his lifetime, as well as his relationship with the people”, he added.

Along with the photographs, there are two canvasses, also made by Chile, with the aid of Cuban painter Ernesto Rancaño. Also, a bronze statue portraying the imagery in a photograph of the hat that Fidel used in the 28th of September 2010 during the 50th anniversary of the Defense Committees of the Revolution, is also shown.

“If I could be born again, I would ask to be born during the time of Fidel”, added the artist who gave to Alexis Castro (one of the sons of the Cuban leader) a sculpture inspired by one of the most emblematic photographs of the sample.

The inauguration was attended by, among other personalities, the members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, the Commander of the Revolution Guillermo Garcia Frias and Jose Ramon Fernandez –both heroes of the Cuban Republic–; prima ballerina Alicia Alonso; Armando Hart director of the Offices of the Martiano Program and president of the Cultural Society Jose Marti and Abel Prieto, consultant of the President in the State Council and Ministry.
