LONDON.- A selection of works by the world famous Scottish Colourists and other leading Scottish artists will be on view at Bonhams, 101 New Bond Street, on 10 and 11 September before they are auctioned in Edinburgh on 25 September.

Leading the group is a key work by Samuel Peploe estimated at £100,000-150,000. Dark Roses in Pot dates from the later period of Peploe’s career when he produced many of his most characteristic works and it display the bold, confident vigorous brush and palette-knife technique of a master at the height of his powers.

A sun drenched painting, On Juan Plage, by John Duncan Fergusson is estimated at £120,000-150,000. Painted in 1923, it Is based on extensive sketches Fergusson made the previous year when he was staying with his friend and patron George Davison at Juan-les-Pin. It embodies the painter’s response to the sun, sea and dazzling landscapes of the South of France after the long grey years of war spent in Britain.

Other works on show include The Crusoe Hotel, Lower Largo by George Hunter – estimate £25,000-35,000 which depicts a local landmark named after Robinson Crusoe, the model for whom, Alexander Selkirk, lived in the town; another Peploe still life, Still Life with Books and Statuette also estimated at £25,000-35,000; Fergusson's townscape, Towards Juan from Cap d'Antibes, estimated at £20,000-30,000 and a fine interior by the fourth member of the Colourist School, Samuel Cadell, entitled, Interior, Ainslie Place at £15,000-20,000.
