NEW YORK, NY.- C24 Gallery was pulsating with vibrant, passionate energy for Domingo Zapata’s opening November 6th. There was a cultured NYC crowd packed into the gallery on a rainy fall evening in New York. Paso Doble music lured art collectors and admirers’ of Zapata’s work into the gallery as they walked past 10 beautifully painted Bullfighter jackets displayed in sand flown over from Spain. The spirited artists and guests danced on the main floor and the art opening was just as much a festive event as it was a display of Domingo’s newest endeavor.

The flight above the main floor displayed his most provocative and bold pieces in this collection. Measuring at 71 by 119 inches, the naked woman in a bullfighter jacket surrounded by written words invoked statements of passion and controversy. Zapata's work also features a piece involving naked Elle Evans from Robin Thicke's 'Blurred Lines' music video.

The next room was full of paintings of zealous, active red bullfighters in New York doing everyday tasks. Zapata takes inspiration from his native country, Spain, by reinventing his most famous bullfighting pieces in sculpture, painting and photography. Each of Zapata’s pieces have their own unique and ironic story to tell - The bullfighter is taking the 4 train to Wall Street to fight the bull on Wall Street. Domingo’s colorful, intense and vivacious paintings are a true sign of his own existence and gifts he enjoys sharing with the world.

Domingo's original series of Bullfighter paintings was one of his first to put him in the spotlight. Johnny Depp is amongst the many collectors to purchase these renowned paintings. Zapata's new series is a humorous take on his original Bullfighter series that is fun and light-hearted, as well as an homage to that which started his career. It portrays the bullfighter who Domingo greatly respects.

In one of art’s most important and influential districts, this opening was the most desired event of the night. The guests kept flowing through the gallery doors and staying to enjoy the spectacular display of work. Celebrity guests included Kelly Rutherford, Catherine Malandrino and Louis Ortiz.

Four of Domingo’s pieces sold last night at the opening: a Bullfighter Jacket Dress to Kill #1 ($40,000), Cipriani piece “Brunch” ($60,000), Mona Lisa ($60,000) and El Cordobes ($60,000), which was bought by Benard Aidam for his wife Catherine Malandrino.

The after party for this sensational evening took place at the Studio nightclub at the W Hotel Union Square, which is an homage to Domingo's famous home studio around the corner of his Gramercy Park home.
