ELMHURST, IL.- The Board of Directors of
Elmhurst Art Museum announced the selection of Jenny M. Gibbs as the new Executive Director, to begin Monday, December 1, 2014.
Gibbs joins EAM with more than twenty-five years of leadership in the non-profit sectors of the arts, design and higher education, most recently serving as Associate Dean of Graduate Programs at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design (MCAD). Prior to her work at MCAD, Gibbs was the Executive Director of the Lacoste School of the Arts in France and the Director of Outreach & Special Programs at New York University.
Gibbs began her career as a Curatorial Research Assistant at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, followed by five years at Christie's as Program Manager for Estates, Appraisals and Valuations and as Head of the Paintings Department at Christie's East. Building upon her previous experience, Gibbs will oversee all aspects of EAM, including fund development, financial and strategic planning, staff management, marketing and community relations. President of the Board, Karen Matusinec welcomes Ms. Gibbs: "After an extensive five month national search, we believe Ms. Gibbs is the right candidate to continue EAM's strong period of growth and programmatic expansion, and lead the Museum to even greater heights."
Of her new position as Executive Director, Gibbs says, "With the award-winning architecture of its galleries, Mies van der Rohe's McCormick House, the fabulously talented curator, Staci Boris and a strong Board, the Elmhurst Art Museum is on track to become a destination for art and design lovers from Chicagoland and beyond. I am truly honored to carry on the excellent work of Phyllis O'Neill and look forward to meeting and welcoming the entire Elmhurst community."
In 2013 Ms. Gibbs moved to Chicago when her husband accepted the presidency of one of the City Colleges of Chicago. She and her husband live in Lincoln Park with their two children.
The Museum's Board of Directors and staff would like to extend their gratitude to Phyllis O'Neill for her dedication, enthusiasm and expertise-she will certainly be missed.
