LONDON.- London Art Fair has today announced a series of collaborations between emerging UK and international galleries for Dialogues, a section of Art Projects curated by Anna Colin.
Situated alongside the main Fair, Art Projects is London Art Fairs curated section of emerging contemporary art from across the globe. It features large-scale installations, solo shows and group displays, alongside an extensive film and performance programme. Art Projects has established itself as an important international platform for new galleries to present the most stimulating contemporary practice.
Curated by Anna Colin, Dialogues returns to Art Projects for a second year. With many of the invited galleries and artists working together for the first time, the section promises a unique exhibition of critical conversations around shared ideas or a common aesthetic. Anna is co-curator of the next British Art Show, associate curator at Fondation Galeries Lafayette in Paris and co-founder of Open School East.
The five 2015 Dialogues collaborations are:
Maria Stenfors (London) / 3+1 Arte Contemporânea (Lisbon)
Space In Between (London) / grey area (Paris)
SYSON (Nottingham) / Laveronica arte contemporanea (Modica)
The International 3 (Manchester) / THE FLAT MASSIMO CARASI (Milan)
VITRINE (London) / p|m Gallery (Toronto)
Anna Colin comments: Dialogues aims to reflect, within an art fair setting, on the proclivity for artists, institutions and galleries to engage in collaboration. Furthermore, it ambitions to trigger new possible forms of exchange and cooperation between galleries which have not worked together in the past, and in some cases, may not have been familiar with each others programmes. This year, the selection has made a point of including galleries that operate both within and outside of large artistic centres, and whose line of work extends to curatorial activities, including commissioning and offsite projects.
Galleries participating in Art Projects for the first time include: BREESE LITTLE, Division of Labour, Eastside Projects, Federico Bianchi Contemporary Art, Galerie Rothamel, Modern Art Oxford, PAPER, Slate Projects, South Kiosk and TinT gallery.
South Kiosks presentation brings together five artists whose work utilises technology in order to examine changes within society, culture and the landscape, including Joachim Setzicks panoramic images of high speed motorway travel, created using a modified 35mm camera mounted in a 5m long light box.
Hanmi Gallery, based in London and Seoul, will interrogate the relationship between the Meme phenomenon, memory and intercultural dialogue, with Korean video-installation artist Changkyum Kim, Korean new media artist Mioon, and London-based collective Troika.
Included in C&C Gallerys group presentation Capacity, artist duo Henry/Braggs images of bingo halls reflect the change in use of grandiose architectural buildings by large gambling companies. The artists will further explore the nuances, rituals, habits and practices of bingo during a live, interactive bingo game they will host as part of London Art Fairs Performance Programme.
Other Art Projects highlights include the launch of The Catlin Guide 2015, featuring profiles of 40 of the most talented new graduate and postgraduate artists from art colleges around the UK, as well as a performance piece by Maeve Rendle, courtesy of The International 3, which uses novel-reading as a means to explore the curious relationship between freedom of thought and literal interpretation.
This year will also see the inaugural Art Projects Artist Award, furnished by the Fairs education sponsor Sothebys Institute of Art. The judging panel has been carefully selected to include key art world figures from the areas of collecting, journalism, curating and education. The winning artist will receive a cash prize of £2500.
Curated by Pryle Behrman, the Art Projects Film Programme runs throughout the Fair in a purpose-built screening room within Art Projects. For 2015, London Art Fair welcomes LIMA, Amsterdam, as a partner of the Programme, with LIMA presenting a selection of recent works from its collection revolving around the imagery of cinema and its relationship to media art.
