MIAMI, FLA.- Pérez Art Museum Miami announced today that it has welcomed 300,000 visitorsincluding more than 70,000 children and studentsto the museum since its December 2013 opening, surpassing its projected annual attendance goal of 200,000. PAMM membership has increased dramatically, with over 9,000 member households today, compared to approximately 1,000 member households at its previous location, and generated in excess of $2.24 million in revenue through these memberships. PAMM has also raised an additional $6 million in major gifts, bringing its campaign to more than 90 percent of goal, and secured significant works for the museums permanent collection.
The response from our visitors and supporters over the last 12 months has been tremendously gratifying, said Thom Collins, PAMMs director. When the new facility opened, the museum redoubled its commitment to developing a diverse roster of exhibitions and programs and to supporting arts education in this community. The volume of visitors, as well as the additional gifts to the museum of both money and art, affirms our strategic direction.
Since opening, PAMM has grown its endowment to ensure the museums continued success. Major gifts totaling $6 million have been given to the museum, including: $1.5 million from Padma and Raj Vattikuti; $1.25 million from Neerja Sethi and Bharat Desai and the DS Foundation; $1 million from the Heckscher Foundation for Children; $500,000 from Robert Rosenberg and the Rosenberg Family Foundation; $250,000 from the Efroymson Family Fund; $250,000 from Christian and Suzanne Armstrong; and a combined $1.25 million in other gifts. This brings the museum to a total of $201 million raised toward its $220 million campaign goal.
The museums permanent collection also continues to grow with major works. A gift of six works by American women artists from JPMorgan Chase & Co. was recently announced at the museums Seventh Annual Corporate Luncheon. This gift includes art by Pat Stier, Marilyn Minter, Jenny Holzer and Maya Lin, across a range of different media. Among other recent gifts are five major works from collectors Dede and Robert Moss, including a Mark di Suvero sculpture that will be installed in PAMMs sculpture garden, and the recently announced gift of 10 works of art from Holding Capital Group Inc., including prints by Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg and James Rosenquist. These prints are on view at the museum through March 1, 2015, in the exhibition Beyond the Limited Life of Painting.
PAMM serves one of the most diverse populations in the United States. The city of Miami is home to a vibrant mix of cultures and traditions from across North America, the Caribbean, and South America, and the museums commitment to its local community is reflected in its visitorship, of which 56 percent came from Miami-Dade County and across Florida. The museum also has the largest art education program in Miami-Dade County outside the school system, and the museum has already reached more than 70,000 students and children. At the same time, the new museum has attracted tourists from more than 90 countries, as well as all 50 states. The museums most significant international visitation has come from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, France, Italy, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.
