Digard Auctions announces December Sale
A stunning portrait of Martin Luther King by Shepard Fairey. Est. 8000-12000 euros.

PARIS.- Still looking for that one of a kind Christmas gift?

Leader in the international Urban Contemporary art market, Paris based Digard Auctions, will host a pre Christmas sale in Paris on Sunday 14 December.

Dondi's (1961-1998) work, entitled Blue Skies, from 1983, leads the sale, offering an original work from one of the most formative founders of the graffiti community. Estimated at between 25000 and 30000 euros, it’s a groundbreaking work from one of the most influential pioneers in the sphere, one whose work created a stylistic standard and technique still used by modern graffiti artists. Dondi’s work is rarely in the public marketplace, making this a rare opportunity.

Key pieces in the Catalogue include a unique Banksy work, as well as works from Keith Haring, and a stunning portrait of Martin Luther King by Shepard Fairey (est. 8000-12000 euros)

The Banksy work, Angry Crows, is made unique by a signed personal note, and references a recurring theme in the artist’s work.

The personal note is to the artist’s then agent Steve Lazarides, the owner of Lazarides Gallery, London, who for many years, championed Banksy, helping bring the artist to the forefront of contemporary art. The note reads “Steve. Thanks a lot. Look good in a suit”. CCTV is a concurrent theme in Banksy’s work and in this painting, a commentary on the UK’s widespread use of CCTV, the birds are pecking away at the cameras trying to destroy them - a metaphor for CCTV’s intrusion into our daily lives.

Distinctive pieces in the sale are the personalised skateboards, and a painted metal Post Office box by C215. The skateboards include boards painted as single works, by Damien Hirst, Takashi Murakami, and Shepard Fairey or in the case of Nick Walker, as a tryptich, and range in estimates from 600 euros to 1300 euros.

Other pieces in the sale are originals plus other rare works from old school Graffiti legends including Blade and Futura 2000 and stunning paintings from ambitious alchemist of realism and street art, painter Connor Harrington and Icelandic abstract painter Katrin Fridricks.

Preview Exhibition : 12 – 14 December at 9 Rue Drouot, Paris, 75009. 1100 –1800. Room 9.
