DALLAS, TX.- An immaculate Tiffany Studios Leaded Glass and Bronze Border Peony Floor Lamp, circa 1920 and stamped TIFFANY STUDIOS, N.Y., sold to a Texas collector for $143,000 in
Heritage Auctions' $1.4+ million Tiffany, Lalique & Art Glass Signature Auction in Dallas. The Nov. 21 auction offered the world's largest collection of wine-related Lalique and an important collection of Lalique clocks, which sold for a combined $142,900.
"Once again Heritage proved to be the most reliable auction house to sell Lalique," said Nick Dawes, Vice President of Special Collections at Heritage. "Only 16 Rene Lalique lots remained unsold from 475 lots of Lalique offered. Bidders recognized the rarity of this auction's private collections and the solid sell-through rate shows they bid accordingly."
Lighting generated intense bidder interest as an 18-light Tiffany Lily Lamp, circa 1910 studio stamped and engraved L.C.T. Favrile, sold for $46,875 and a delicately Daum Nancy Etched and Enameled Glass Rain Lamp, circa 1900, sold for $43,750. A Tiffany Studios Vine Border Table Lamp, circa 1915, closed at $10,000.
The auction's diverse selection of Lalique included a circa 1928 Peacock Blue Borromee Vase, which sold for $46,875 and a circa 1929 Milan Vase with White Patina sold for $43,750. A pair of Rene Lalique Opalescent Glass Suzanne and Thais Statuettes sold for $28,750. A circa 1929 Lalique Deep Glass Pétrarque Vase a rare topaz example rarely seen at auction saw interest from three bidders who pushed the hammer price to $21,250. A Clear and Frosted Serpent Vase, circa 1924, brought $25,000.
One of the largest collections of Lalique clocks ever to come to market was led by a rare Topaz le Jour et La Nuit clock, circa 1926, which sold for $47,000. A clear and frosted Deux Figurines clock with an illuminated base sold for $19,375 and a Deux Coqs clock, circa 1929, saw interest from six bidders who pushed it to $6,875. The entire collection just six shy of being a complete set sold for a combined $142,900.
"This was the largest Lalique clock collection I've ever seen," Dawes said. "It was important to me, personally, because I had the unique pleasure of assisting the collector with his first purchases in the late 1990s."
