KENNETT SQUARE, PA .- Longwood Gardens, one of the worlds great display gardens, has commissioned Klip Collective to create a series of immersive, site-specific installations on its 1,000-acre grounds. Nightscape: A Light & Sound Experience will feature Klip Collectives signature moving imagery and choreographed lights, as well as newly commissioned soundscapes and scores by composer John Barthmus and Julian Grefe with Justin Geller. Longwoods commission is Klip Collectives first garden-wide installation and will feature all new and site-specific works. Nightscape opens July 1, 2015 and will be on view through October 31, 2015.
Longwood Gardens is delighted to work with Klip Collective on Nightscape to create a new garden experience, said Executive Director Paul B. Redman. These artists visionary interpretation of Longwood at night will give our guests a moving and memorable light and sound experience as they walk through our inspiring landscape.
As twilight falls at Longwood, seven different locations will transform completely to create a virtual nighttime wonderland. Longwoods Flower Garden Walk, Topiary Garden, and iconic grand Conservatory are among the locations Klip has chosen. In some of those areas, projections will create striking juxtapositions of organic and inorganic forms. In the Topiary Garden, for instance, the geometric-shaped yew trees will be transformed into dynamic stone-like sculptures. In other parts of the Gardens, the projections will amplify the colors and textures of existing flora. Longwoods giant sophora will be the centerpiece of a projected animation that draws its inspiration from the growth of this historic tree, curling up from the bottom and seemingly floating up and around the massive trunk. Other areas will be filled with original music and light illusions that interact in unsuspecting ways with the Gardens landscape, architecture, and water features.
Our team at Klip is excited to present a body of work of this scale at Longwood, said Ricardo Rivera, one of the founding directors of Klip Collective. This is our first opportunity to create such a transformative garden environment while incorporating original scores from multiple composers. From abstract reflections off the large lake to a projected animation on a giant sophora tree, Longwood will truly be an immersive experience on an epic scale.
Nightscape opens July 1, 2015 and will be on view through October 31, 2015. Tickets will go on sale in March 2015.
