PHILADELPHIA, PA.- The Bridgette Mayer Gallery announces its fourth solo exhibition of work by artist Paul Oberst. “Illuminations, Jogged Perspective and Banded Measure” on view from February 4 – 28, 2015. The exhibition features three different series of Oberst’s work throughout the gallery.

The Illumination series transforms the North Gallery into a library, both ancient and contemporary, filled floor to ceiling with primarily photographic images suffused in an amber glow. Creating a space for contemplation for the viewer to speculate and imagine the histories behind them. The banded men images included as part of this series are a collaborative work done with Photographer McNamara.

Jogged Perspective/Herring Cove Assemblage is an installation of over one hundred panels mimicking the awe by multiplication of experiences and impressions which encompasses the South Gallery wall. A complementary piece entitled Mimesis occupies the opposite wall.

Banded Measure/Herring Cove is a video piece that relates to Jogged Perspective/Herring Cove Assembl age. Late September 2014, measurements were taken by Oberst of a section of Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown, MA. The perspective is that of a video camera and the event is documented in collaboration with Boston filmmaker Simone Hnilicka.

Paul Oberst received his BFA from Center College in Kentucky in 1977 and was awarded a residency Fellowship at the Fine Arts Work Center (Provincetown, MA) in 1982-83. Paul Oberst lives, works and teaches near Belfast, ME.
