Only 40% of Prado Visitors from Spain |
A CORUÑA, SPAIN.- Gabriele Finaldi, the adjunct director of Conservation and Research at the Museo Nacional del Prado announced that the current challenge of the museum is to increase the number and frequency of Spanish visitors to the museum. He commented that only 40% of the visitors to the Prado are from Spain, even though it is the “mirror of the history of Spain.” The British historian wants the Spanish people feel that the Prado is theirs, as it happens in Britain with the National Gallery of London, where he Finaldi worked for ten years.
He also commented that the museum visitors are more demanding and want a complete service with places to rest and have coffee and to go to conferences, for example.
Finaldi stated that the Museo del Prado is changing to adapt itself to this new museum concept. He said the Prado expansion will conclude in 2004 and the new law that regulates the museum will be approved shortly.
