NEW YORK, NY.- Faggionato will be based in Zwirners London location where he will concentrate on sales in both the primary and secondary markets. The gallery opened in 2012 in an eighteenth-century Georgian townhouse on Grafton Street in the heart of Mayfair, the citys historic fine arts neighborhood. Faggionato will be a Partner at the gallery and will work alongside Angela Choon, who has been with David Zwirner since 1994, first in New York and then in London.
Faggionato has well over three decades of experience in the art world. Born in Monaco, his career began in London in 1982 after moving from Paris (where he did his baccalauréat). After completing the Sothebys Institute course in Fine Art, he joined the Robert Fraser Gallery, which in the 1980s was responsible for introducing American artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat to a London audience.
In 1986, he moved to the Impressionist and Modern Art Department at Christies, and was promoted to Director of Contemporary Art for Europe and responsible for compiling eight international auctions a year. In 1989, he became a Board Director and in 1990 was promoted to Head of Contemporary Art Worldwide, before he turned thirty.
In 1993, he established the gallery Faggionato Fine Arts (later known as Faggionato Ltd.) in Mayfair. For the past twenty-two years, the gallery has focused on European and American Modern and Contemporary Masters and also represented a number of younger international contemporary artists.
