PULSE New York kicks off 10th anniversary with vigorous early sales and at-capacity attendance
PULSE New York is open daily through Sunday, March 8, 2015.

NEW YORK, NY.- Yesterday PULSE New York opened its 10th anniversary edition with strong attendance and a buzz of excitement from both exhibitors and guests. VIP guests braved the snow to for a first look at the artwork and to attend the signature Private Preview Brunch at Chelsea’s conveniently located Metropolitan Pavilion, on 18th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues.

Now established as a can’t-miss event on New York’s cultural calendar, PULSE New York drew a range of visitors on its opening day, including curators from major corporate collections and museums, private collectors and a vibrant, group of 1,500 young professionals at its Young Collectors Cocktails party putting the venue at capacity. “The New York art world came to PULSE,” remarked John Ferrère of Paris’ Galerie L’Inlassable who is exhibiting with PULSE for the first time.

With over 50 exhibitors from around the world representing a tightly-curated selection of over 100 international artists, this intimate fair offers an exciting and accessible platform for discovering contemporary art for both seasoned collectors and new visitors alike. Both up-and-coming and established galleries reported high-energy sales as soon as the doors opened. Within the first hour, Uprise Art sold three pieces by Charlie Engman, Conduit Gallery sold eight pieces by Sarah Ball and Swoon Studio sold 150 prints in a flurry of activity. PULSE Prize nominees were also in high demand: “Ethereal Body,” a painting by Elizabeth Condon, was sold to the JP Morgan Collection by Emerson Dorsch Gallery, while a large sticker collage by Ye Hongxing was bought by a new collector from Art Lexïng. Meanwhile, the Lower East Side Print Shop placed a piece in a university museum collection and Davidson Contemporary sold six cryography pieces by Sam Messinger to a museum trustee.

“The amount of people coming to the fair regardless of the snow was wild, and the interest of the people came through … they were serious,” said Morton Poulsen of Copenhagen’s Gallery Poulsen, who reported the sale of a painting by Jean-Pierre Roy to Leonardo DiCaprio. “We found our fair.”

PULSE New York is open daily through Sunday, March 8, 2015. Special programming includes PLAY, the video and new media initiative curated by Billy Zhao of the Marina Abramovic Institute.
