LONDON.- The Bonhams sale of Decorative Arts from 1860 on April 1st will include a special section of items titled "The Hollywood Interior". Taking place at Bonhams Knightsbridge salerooms, “The Hollywood Interior” will feature an array of pieces that exude the glamour and sophistication of Tinseltown’s golden age. The majority of items date from the Art Deco or Jazz Age period and include lighting, furniture, ceramics, glass and sculpture by some of the leading designer names of the era.

One of the highlights is a selection of works on paper by Frank Martin, a graphic artist who produced portraits of many of the great leading ladies of the Hollywood silent era including Louise Brooks, Evelyn Brent and Greta Garbo. These works come from the prestigious Victor Arwas Collection, with many of Frank Martin’s works exhibited by Victor and Greta Arwas at their London gallery Editions Graphiques during the 1970s and 80s, when Elton John, Michael Caine and others were regular visitors.

A Frank Martin drypoint etching from 1974, 'Louise Brooks', is offered in the sale with an estimate of £2,000-3,000. Portraying the legendary 1920s film star against a fantastical Cubist background, an edition of this same print is held in the collection of The Tate in London.

The sale also includes over 70 examples of Lalique glass from the pre-war period, many examples capturing the high Art Deco style.

'Danaïdes', a vase designed in 1926 by René Lalique (£4,500-5,000), is a typical creation of the famed French designer. Made of opalescent glass and featuring stylised nude maidens pouring water out of jugs, it epitomises the Deco look.

Furnishings include a fabulous ‘Sunburst’ Art Deco-style dining suite, £800-1,000, and a range of lamps and decorative items. For that Hollywood film set feel, a stylish 1940s floor lamp in the form of a studio light is £700-900.
