RIGA.- Liene Mackus and Artūrs Arnis’s exhibition “Winter Sleep” is being shown at the LCCA Office Gallery from March 16th to April 10. Using the language of sculpture, sound and scenography, they have created their own story about sleep as a unique state of consciousness, which allows one to come closer to feelings that are not accessible while awake.

Artists characterized the exhibition in the following way: “The works of the exhibition ‘Winter Sleep’ is about a reality that has been pushed aside, which takes shape in our state of sleep. The world of sleep is shaped from details grounded in life, which metamorphosize and take on another emotional and visual scale, which usually in a state of wakefulness is not accessible. It is on one hand a deep and individual experience, and on the other hand one that is collective and shows best the human condition.”

Liene Mackus (1984) graduated from the Department of Sculpture of the Art Academy of Latvia, and is active in creating exhibition projects, animation films and performances for children. Her most important exhibitions to date have been: “Identity. Contemporary Latvian Art History,” the Cēsis Art Festival, and the Survival Kit contemporary art festival. She together with Aigars Bikše and Māris Bērziņš have collaborated as the group Anna Varna, which was nominated for the second-ever Purvītis Award.

Artūrs Arnis (1981) graduated from the Department of Scenography of the Art Academy of Latvia. He had created the scenography for numerous performances (at Dirty Deal Teatro, Dailes Theatre, Liepāja Theatre, Russian Drama Theatre, and the National Theatre), works in an art school, the Latvian Culture College and the Art Academy of Latvia.

The Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art’s Office Gallery and Information Centre is open every working day from 12:00 pm until 6 pm; entrance to the exhibition is free. Address: Alberta Street 13 (7th floor), Rīga, LV-1010.
