NEW YORK, NY.- The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum has been nominated in three categories for the 2015 Webby Awards. The ZERO: Countdown to Tomorrow, 1950s60s exhibition website is nominated in Website: Art, the museums Collection Online in Website: Cultural Institutions, and its Twitter feed in Social: Culture and Lifestyle.
Begun in 1995, the Webby Awards honor excellence on the Internet by awarding two recipients in each category, one selected by members of the International Academy of Arts and Sciences and one chosen by vote on the Webby website. You can help the museum earn recognition by voting for its projects at the Webby Awards site.
The ZERO: Countdown to Tomorrow, 1950s60s exhibition website presents the work of the German artists group Zero and the global network that formed around it. The website employs an evocative voiceover introducing visitors to the Zero group, a custom soundtrack, exhibition artworks browsable by themes, bold design elements, and video of kinetic artworks in motion in the museum. The Zero artists global reach is also explained through an interactive map, illustrated with historical photos, that charts major milestones and exhibitions of their work.
The museums newly redesigned Collection Online presents detailed information on nearly 1,600 works by more than 575 artists, as well artists biographies and guides to significant art movements. Visitors can browse scholarly writings and high-resolution images by artist, movement, medium, or date as well as discover related material from the Guggenheims blogs. Each month an individual artist and a recent acquisition are highlighted on the Collection Onlines homepage.
With more than 1 million followers, the Guggenheim Twitter feed facilitates a global conversation about art and architecture at the Guggenheims museums in New York, Venice, Bilbao, and beyond. Followers are invited to participate in discussions on current exhibitions such as #OnKawara and #Monir as well as live Q&As with curators.
