Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum announces $100,000 reward for Finial stolen in 1990
The Finial is one of the least recognizable of the 13 works stolen from the Museum.

BOSTON, MASS.- The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum today announced that it is offering a new $100,000 reward for information leading directly to the recovery of the Napoleonic Finial stolen from the Museum along with 12 other works on the morning of March 18,1990.

The Finial is one of the least recognizable of the 13 works stolen from the Museum, making it possible that it is in the possession of someone who is unaware that it is stolen. At the same time, it is highly distinctive, and therefore easy to identify as the Museum’s.

The reward, which exceeds the market value of the Finial, is separate from and in addition to the Museum’s $5 million reward for information leading directly to the recovery of the 13 stolen works in good condition. The Museum can ensure complete confidentiality to anyone with information about the Finial.

“We encourage anyone with information about this object to contact the Museum directly,” said Anthony Amore, the Museum’s security director. “We can guarantee complete confidentiality to anyone who comes forward with knowledge about the Finial.”

The Finial, a 10-inch, gilded bronze eagle was affixed to the flag pole of the First Regiment of Grenadiers of Foot of Napoleon's Imperial Guard dating to 1813-1814.

Anyone with information should contact Anthony Amore by calling (617) 278-5114 or emailing theft@gardnermuseum.org.
