LONDON (AFP).- An architects' collective that helped transform a rundown part of Liverpool has been shortlisted for Britain's prestigious Turner Prize, along with three female artists, organisers said on Tuesday.
"Assemble", a group of 18 activist architects based in London, was nominated for its project in the Granby Four Streets area of the northwest England port city, which had been slated for demolition.
The collective works hand in hand with the local community, mixing art, design and architecture.
The three other finalists for the art award are three women living in London: Bonnie Camplin, 44, Janice Kerbel, 45, and Nicole Wermers, 43.
Camplin was chosen for "The Military Industrial Complex" -- a study room exploring the concept of "consensus reality".
Kerbel won her place on the shortlist thanks to "DOUG" -- an operatic work about catastrophic events.
Wermers was picked for "Infrastruckur" -- a series of chairs draped with fur coats to illustrate the appropriation of art and design by a consumerist society.
The four finalists will be exhibited in the Tramway gallery in Glasgow from October until January 2016.
The winner is announced at a ceremony on December 7.
The prize, named after one of Britain's most famous painters, has been handed out every year since 1984 to an artist aged under 50.
It is closely followed as a marker for art world trends but is also frequently mocked by critics of the contemporary art scene.
Previous winners include Damien Hirst and Anish Kapoor.
