HAMBURG, GERMANY.- Deichtorhallen Hamburg International House of Photography presents “A Clear Vision – Photographic Works from the F.C.Gundlach Collection,” on view through January 25, 2004.
The International House of Photography has commenced its work officially at the beginning of September. Prof. F. C. Gundlach - in the role of the Founding Director - has taken on the responsibility of converting the southern hall of the Deichtorhallen into an International House of Photography, which will support and represent the medium of photography in the widest sense of the word.
Prof. F. C. Gundlach will hand over his outstanding collection for an initial period of 20 years. The institution Deichtorhallen Ausstellungs GmbH as a whole pursues an integrated concept: Complementary activities of equal importance take place in both halls. The exhibition hall for International Contemporary Art, an important venue for modern art, and the International House of Photography, a unique institution for the medium of photography in Germany, will present an interplay of new trends and existing positions from the whole range of artistic mediums.
In the first exhibition of this young institution, a personal choice of ca. 400 photographs of the F. C. Gundlach Collection, which includes 12,000 works will be presented – curated by Zdenek Felix, the former director of the Deichtorhallen (1991-2003). The emphasis of the exhibition lies on photography of the last 50 years. 52 artists with ca. 400 works are presented in the exhibition of the extensive spectrum of topics of the F. C. Gundlach Collection. Thematically, this first presentation concentrates on the image of man in photography.
