GENEVA.- Hôtel des Ventes, Geneva announces an exceptional country house sale to auction the furniture and fittings of Hauteville Manor on 11 and 12 September 2015.
This sale will consist of objects exclusively from Hauteville Manor, property of the Grand Hauteville family since its construction in 1760 at St-Légier (Vaud region overlooking Lake Geneva, Switzerland). Over the last 250 years, this illustrious family has surrounded itself with furniture, silverware, paintings and works of art that make for a refined and eclectic collection, testimony to the history of the Grand dHauteville family and hence Swiss, European and American history as well. The sale will also contain family jewellery and watches that date from the 18th to 20th centuries. This extraordinary collection of over 1200 lots, conserved with precious care to the present day, will be unveiled to the public and presented to the auction market for the first time by Genevas Hôtel des Ventes.
Another Premiere: Hauteville Manor opens its doors for the pre-auction exhibition: 5 and 6 September. For the first and the last time, connoisseurs can discover the interior of this majestic dwelling which holds two and a half centuries worth of memories of the life of a very prestigious family. Amongst these family members is a St-Légier baron, many bankers in Lyon and Amsterdam, a treasurer of the Swedish crown, the founder of the banque de France and a hero of the American Revolution
Aside from the manor house, the grounds of the estate will also be open to the public, affording access to the 30 hectares of parkland and terraces overlooking Lake Geneva.
After the successful sale at Gingins House in 2013, Hôtel des Ventes once again presents a Country House exhibition and sale in situ, confirming its ability to organise auctions in prestigious locations. It is very rare still to find houses of this importance filled with objects acquired over the centuries and conserved by the same family until the present day. We are delighted to open the doors of one of the most beautiful manor houses in Switzerland and its grounds to the public and have the honour of organising this exceptional Country House sale, states Bernard Piguet, Director and Principal auctioneer of Hôtel des Ventes.
