Unique hand-drawn display signed by all Mercury and Gemini crews up for sale
NASA Collection of Leon Ford offered at upcoming live auction event.



BOSTON, MASS.- A distinctive hand-drawn display depicting the Mercury and Gemini spacecraft and listing the names of each mission crew member will be auctioned by Boston, MA based RR Auction.

Signed in felt tip and ballpoint next to the mission name by all members of the prime crew that include: Alan Shepard; Gus Grissom; John Glenn; Scott Carpenter; Wally Schirra; Gordon Cooper; Gus Grissom and John Young; Jim McDivitt and Ed White; Gordon Cooper and Charles Conrad; Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford; Frank Borman and Jim Lovell; Neil Armstrong and Dave Scott; Tom Stafford and Gene Cernan; John Young and Michael Collins; Charles Conrad and Richard Gordon; and Jim Lovell and Buzz Aldrin.

“A positively stunning display with an astounding group of names—every astronaut from every pre-Apollo manned mission—representing these two early NASA programs, said Bobby Livingston, Executive VP at RR Auction. “Though unclear exactly who this display was originally created for, it is an incredible, one-of-a-kind nature implies it was for someone of importance, the pre-auction estimate is for it to for $25,000 - $30,000."

Among the more than 100 represented lots from the Leon Ford Collection:

• Buzz Aldrin’s Apollo 11 Personal Preference Kit (PPK). (Estimate $20,000 - $25,000)

• Al Worden’s Apollo 15 American flag Beta cloth patch. One-of-a–kind flown Beta cloth name patch, worn on the exterior of Worden’s spacesuit during the entirety of the Apollo 15 mission. (Estimate $15,000 - $20,000)

• Commander Charles Conrad’s Skylab 2 flight training suit. The mustard-color suit bears the Skylab mission patch on the right sleeve, NASA ‘meatball’ logo patch on the right breast, and Conrad’s Velcro name patch on the left, “Charles Conrad, NASA-JSC.” (Estimate $15,000 - $20,000)

• Gene Cernan’s flown checklist from his near fatal spacewalk. (Estimate $10,000 - $15,000)

• Exceedingly rare official Lunar Planning Chart signed by six moonwalkers on their landing sites. Desirable for its imposing size and coveted for its rarity, only six of these massive lunar maps were signed. (Estimate $20,000 - $25,000)

Pre-live bidding will run June 18 – June 24, followed by a live sale on June 25, scheduled to take place at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, Cambridge, MA beginning at 1PM.
