This important Sevres ormolu mounted clock with Garniture is estimated to sell for $15,000-$20,000.



OAKLAND, CA.- Clars Auction Gallery announced that they will be offering an exceptional collection of Chinese ceramics from the estate of Dr. Graeme Hanson of San Francisco during the Sunday session of their two-day June 27 and 28, 2015 sale. Dr. Hanson served with distinction at the UCSF Department of Psychiatry for 24 years, prior to which he spent 10 years as a faculty member at Harvard University. He passed away at the age of 79 in December 2014. In addition to his contributions to the field of psychiatry, he was known for his love of ancient Chinese ceramics of which he was an avid collector.

Among the highlights of the Hanson collection to be offered is a Longquan celadon glazed dish incised with two lotus sprigs that he originally purchased in 1999 from J.J. Lally & Co, New York. This offering carries an estimate of $25,000-$45,000. In addition to the Longquan, Ding and qingbai ware, there will be a selection of hare’s fur, tortoise shell and russet splashed dark glaze bowls as well as a Cizhou type black glazed globular body painted with a stylized floral spray and several Cizhou ceramic pillows.

To be offered on June 28th from a Pennsylvania estate will be a Chinese blue and white porcelain stick neck vase decorated with five striding dragons amid lotus tendrils, Qianlong mark on base that is estimated to achieve $50,000-$70,000.

Special Collection of Timepieces to Highlight Jewelry Category
Beginning with the June 28th sale and continuing into their July auction, the Jewelry and Timepieces category will be offering a collection of 40+ fine timepieces and pocket watches from makers including

Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Rolex, Bvlgari, Cartier, Piaget, IWC, Hublot, Muhle Glashutte, Tag Heuer, Baume & Mercier, Omega, and Ikepod. Estimates on pieces in this collection range as high as $12,000.

Among the other jewelry highlights will be a diamond and 18k gold solitaire ring with round brilliant diamond weighing 3.05 cts that is estimated at $16,000-$18,000 and an Edwardian ruby (2.06 cts), diamond (two old mine diamonds weighing approx. 2.06 cts), platinum and 14k yellow gold ring that carries an estimate of $7,000-$10,000.

Decorative Arts & Furnishings
The continuation of important offerings from the Richard Mellon Scaife Estate and Trotter’s Antiques of Pacific Grove (CA) will be among the highlights in this category including an important Chinoiserie giltwood carved console table and wall mirror.

Two clocks of note will be offered. The first will be an important Sevres ormolu mounted clock with Garniture estimated at $15,000-$20,000; the second a Chinese Export automaton bracket clock estimated at $4,000-$6,000.

Marilyn Monroe fans will vie for a hand-signed Summer, 1941 school photograph signed by Miss Norma Jeane Baker (Marilyn Monroe) that is estimated to fetch $4,000-$6,000.

From the Dutch School, a magnificent second half 19th century, plank-on-frame model of the three-masted four yards crossed full-rigged Dutch XVIII ship "Johanna Elizabeth Geer,” built by Ruida, will be offered for $$8,000-$12,000 This work measures 56”h x 68”w.

Rounding the Decorative Art highlights will be a large selection on wood turned bowls and sculpture by Warren Atkins, Myron Lynch, and Robert Gauthier as well as Pre-Columbian pieces deaccessioned from the California Academy of Sciences.

Fine Art
Clars will be offering numerous fine American and European paintings, prints and sculpture on June 28th. Some of the highlights are important Russian paintings by such artists as: Georgi Alexandrovich Lapchine, Constantin Aleksandrovich Westchiloff, Michail Stiepanovitch Tkatchenko, Nikolai Petrovich Bogdanov-Bel’sky, and David Davidovich Burliuk. Also to be featured are several exceptional Post War and Modern pieces such as an oil on canvas titled, “Diasphoric (1965),” by Harold Davies (American, 1891-1976) as well as the painting, “Stacked Vehicles,” by Jeremy Dickinson (British, b. 1963).

Clars Auction Gallery’s Quintessential June Fine Art, Decorative Art, Furniture, Jewelry/Timepieces and Asian Art Auction will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 27th and 28th, 2015. The sales will begin promptly at 9:30am on Saturday and Sunday. Previews for this sale will be held Friday, June 26th from 1pm to 6pm, Saturday and Sunday beginning at 9:00 am and by appointment.
