CANBERRA.- The National Museum of Australia has welcomed the appointment of David Jones, as Chair of the Museum's Council.

An experienced businessman, Mr Jones has served as Deputy Chair of the Museum's Council and brings wide private sector experience to the Chair's position.

"I am delighted by the appointment of David Jones as the Chair of the National Museum's Council," said National Museum director, Dr Mathew Trinca.

"Mr Jones brings a great wealth of knowledge and capacity from the private sector to the Chair's position, as well as a deep understanding of the Museum itself, having served as a Council member since February 2010," said Dr Trinca.

"Led by Mr Jones, the Council will guide the National Museum as it builds on its early success in expanding its reach, in Australia and overseas," said Dr Trinca.

Mr Jones welcomed the appointment.

"This is an exciting time at the National Museum, which has a strong forward programming schedule and a commitment to incorporating digital technologies to cater for both real and virtual visitors," said Mr Jones.

"I look forward to harnessing the experience gained from my years on the Museum's Council and as Chair of its Audit, Finance and Risk Committee, to support the Museum's ambitions to grow programs and audiences," he said.

Mr Jones is Chairman of VGI Partners. He is also Chief Executive Officer of Kudos Energy. He was previously executive director of Better Place (Australia), having worked in private equity for 17 years. He is also a non-executive director of four other organisations: Global Sources Limited (NASDAQ), EMR Capital, EC Group and Derwent Executive.

Mr Jones was first appointed to the National Museum's Council on 25 February 2010.
