LLANDUDNO.- MOSTYN, Wales UK announces a solo exhibition by French artist Camille Blatrix, produced in collaboration with Fondation d'entreprise Ricard, Paris.
In 2014 Blatrix was awarded the prestigious Prix dentreprise Ricard, which annually awards a monetary prize to an emerging French artist whose work has been exhibited at the Foundations space in Paris. Blatrixs work was purchased by the Foundation, and then donated to the Centre Pompidou in Paris. For the 16th edition of the Prize, and for the first time in its history, the Foundation wished to honour the artist with, in addition to the award, a solo show outside France .
The exhibition, the first showing for Blatrix in the UK, presents entirely new work by the artist and responds, in part, to his visit to MOSTYN and the town of Llandudno in 2014. The trip reminded him of childhood memories and of returning from a large city to a smaller town to visit family and friends. For the show, Blatrix has invited his parents to present their own work (his mother is a ceramicist and his father is a former artist), which reflects the feelings that arose during his visit to MOSTYN. In so doing, the exhibition comes to discuss issues of biography, influence, upbringing and artistic career.
This exhibition is curated by Alfredo Cramerotti (MOSTYN Director) and produced by MOSTYN, Wales UK and Fondation dentreprise Ricard, Paris.
With its spirit of dialogue and collaboration, No School is part of the Conversation Series, a sequence of shows at MOSTYN that brings together two exhibitions in conversation. The intention is to present the dialogue, collaboration or similarity in exploring themes that can occur between artists, and to put this in conversation.
Camille Blatrix (b.1984) lives and works in Paris. He studied in Strasbourg and Los Angeles before graduating from Ecole Nationale supérieure des Beaux Arts de Paris in 2011.
