NEW ORLEANS, LA.- Nationally recognized curator William Morrow has joined the
Newcomb Art Museum staff as Curator and Coordinator of Academic Programming. Using a multi-disciplined approach to promote diversity and innovation in art, Morrow has curated more than 70 exhibitions, commissioned projects, lectures, time-based media, dance, theatre, and music programs.
Morrow explains he was attracted to the position because of the museums commitment to exposing students to challenging exhibitions, civic dialogue, and community transformation, combined with the potential to collaborate with Tulane initiatives and faculty.
Morrow comes to Tulane from the Denver Art Museum where he served as Associate Curator of Contemporary Art and organized such acclaimed exhibitions such as Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook: Recent Video Works (2013), Nick Cave: Sojourn (2013), and HEARD:DAM (2013).
Prior to the DAM he was the Curator of the Private Collection of Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson and Founding Director of 21c Museum, Louisville, Kentucky. Noteworthy exhibitions at 21c Museum include Cuba Now (2011), Creating Identity: Portraits Today (2009), and Photo/Synthesis: James Baker Hall (2008).
During his tenure with the Brown/Wilson Collection, the collection grew to more than 3000 works to include emerging artists who are now internationally known, such as Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Dinh Q Lé, Zanele Muholi, Patricia Piccinini, Mark Bradford, Yinka Shonibare, and Kehinde Wiley.
Museum director Mónica Ramírez-Montagut stated, William is an experienced and highly respected curator. His expertise will ensure that our exhibitions and programs make important contributions to the field and, in turn, advance the museum's local, regional, and national reputation.
Morrow received a Master of Arts in English Literature and Art History from the University of St Andrews, Scotland as well as an MA in Museology from the School of World Art and Museum Studies at the University of East Anglia, Norwich, England.
