National Bank Note rarities abound in Long Beach Currency Signature Auction
Unique Serial Number 1 District of Columbia Red Seal. Estimate: $40,000 - $60,000.

DALLAS, TX.- A Near-Gem New York District Binion Fr. 2231-B $10,000 1934 Federal Reserve Note PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 provides a legendary anchor to Heritage Auctions' Sept. 16 - 22 Long Beach Expo Currency Signature Auction, where it's expected to bring $120,000+ as the top lot in the auction.

"Banks used $5000 and $10,000 Federal Reserve notes primarily for bank-to-bank transactions," said Dustin Johnston, Director of Currency Auctions at Heritage Auctions. "This superb example was part of the famed Binion Hoard, which was part of a 100-note, $1 million display in Binion's Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas. As with most examples from the hoard, the story and pedigree is highly coveted among collectors."

A unique 1902 Serial Number 1 District of Columbia Red Seal $10 Fr. 614 is one of only three such notes known from the National Bank of Washington, DC and is the lone Serial Number One Red Seal known from the District. It is expected to bring $40,000+, providing another significant highlight in the auction. Two notes from The Las Vegas Collection — a 1929 Eureka, NV $10, Serial Number 1 from The Farmers & Merchants NB, Ch. # 11784 and a 1902 Tonopah, NV $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 600 Nevada First NB Ch. # 8530 Blue Seal note — provide collectors a rare chance to acquire some very special Nevada notes and are expected to bring $35,000+ and $30,000+, respectively.

Collectors of rare Confederate Currency will take special note of an 1861 Montgomery T3 $100 PCGS Choice About New 55PPQ , an anchor of the second part of the Williamette Collection. It is expected to bring $25,000+.

Further highlights include, but are not limited to:

• Alva, OT $10 1882 Brown Back Fr. 490, The First NB Ch. # (W)5587: Newly discovered Alva Territorial Brown Back - finest known from this bank. Estimate: $25,000+.

• Continental Currency May 10, 1775 $20 PCGS Apparent Extremely Fine 40: Extremely Fine Marbled Edge $20 Continental with only minor restorations. Estimate: $17,500+.

• Double Error Inverted Back and Misaligned Underprint Series 611 $5 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64 EPQ: Inverted back and misaligned underprint error, one of a paltry three known examples of this rare error. From The Guy M. Araby MPC Collection. Estimate: $15,000+.

• Jefferson, TX $20 1902 Red Seal Fr. 641 The Commercial NB Ch. # (S)8770: Newly discovered Serial Number 1 $20 Red Seal, a spectacular new discovery from this scarce East Texas bank and certainly one of the better notes from The Lone Star State Heritage has handled over the years. Estimate: $15,000+.

• Fr. 2201-K* $500 1934 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Very Fine 25: Rare Dallas 1934 $500 star note, only the second example of this rare note Heritage has ever offered. Estimate: $15,000+.
