LOS ANGELES, CA.- Billings Auction announced today its inaugural auction event to be held at its new brick-and-mortar space on Bay Street in Downtown Los Angeles. Co-founded by co-owners of The Window, Lorca Cohen and Greg Wooten, Joshua Kritzer of Rewire Gallery and LA dealer Rich Carmichael, Billings is the first auction house of its kind in LA. Established in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles’s arts district, BILLINGS was created to provide an affordable and accessible platform for the acquisition of quality vintage modern furnishings, art, objects and accessories. A design community-inspired venture with music, live performances, and a selection of food and drink, Billings will be a creative happening with all of the interactive excitement of a live auction. The inaugural auction will offer 300 lots, representing a wide-range of curated pieces. Its founders bring their collective years of expertise and experience, respectively, as Los Angeles dealers and gallerists, to bear on this singular cross-section of pieces from the pedigreed to the anonymous, and the classic to the unusual.

Notable Billings lot highlights include a Charles and Ray Eames for Herman Miller ESU 200 Storage Cabinet, an early production in exceptional original condition estimated at $5,000-7,000, a Poul Henningsen Artichoke Lamp, designed by Henningsen for Louis Poulsen estimated at $3,000-4,000, a Triennale sofa by Marco Zanuso for Arflex, with brass legs and original upholstery estimated at $2,500-3,500, a large pottery vase by Beatrice Wood, an exceptional piece with volcanic glaze, signed “Beato”, estimated at $1,500-2,000, and a signed and dated 1968 geometric hard-edge oil on canvas painting by Patrick Hogan estimated at $1,500-2,500; a beloved LA artist who, while disabled with MS, painted this work with a brush held between his teeth.

Billings was initiated to fill a void in Los Angeles’s design market, a decided absence of curated channels for the acquisition of exceptional historical and contemporary pieces. With an accessible price point in place to satisfy this need, the auction house offers rare and note-worthy pieces at low to no reserve, with estimates ranging from $100 to $5,000. Billings has great potential for consigners, seasoned collectors and first-time buyers alike. Representing a hundred years of North American and international design and decorative arts from the 20th to early 21st centuries, BILLINGS’ inaugural auction offerings are heavily weighted in mid-century modern selections and pieces from the 60’s and 70’s.

Previews will take place at Billings, 1919 Bay Street, from Monday, September 14 through Friday, September 18, from 10am to 8pm. All lots will be online for preview on LiveAuctioneers.com from September 1.

The auction is open to the public and will take place from 10am to 5pm at The Great Company, 1917 Bay Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021. Valet parking will be available during the live auction. Those unable to attend the live auction can bid online by registering with BILLINGS Auction through their LiveAuctioneers account. Once registered, participants can watch the auction live, online from anywhere, and bid on their favorite lots remotely through their computer, tablet or phone.
