he sale is comprised of 716 lots of United States, Canada and BNA Provinces, general foreign and numerous collections with some wonderful pieces for the avid collector.

NEW YORK, NY.- Spink’s New York office will be holding a Philatelic Collector’s Series sale this coming November. The sale is comprised of 716 lots of United States, Canada and BNA Provinces, general foreign and numerous collections with some wonderful pieces for the avid collector. For all those with a passion for aviation, there is a piece of special interest too. The sale will take place in the Spink New York office from the 18th to the 19th November 2015.

On the first day Spink will be offering a fine selection of Canada and BNA, including some important covers from British Columbia, Newfoundland with 1857 2d scarlet vermilion pair (#2) being one of only two such usages, and 6½d scarlet vermilion (#7) being one of only five known. The highlight cover is the fabulous Nova Scotia 1851 1/- cold violet pair (#7) on cover to India, one of the greatest BNA covers, carrying an estimate of $50,000-75,000.

The auction continues with premium quality Canada, British Commonwealth and general foreign material and concludes with 116 lots made up of collections, especially Canada, Germany and specialized Central America.

The second day is comprised of 396 lots formed of United States and Possessions. Besides our usual selection of quality 19th and 20th century mint and used singles we are offering a newly discovered 1911 Rodgers Aerial Post “Vin Fiz” stamp (#CL2) on a Vin Fiz picture post card, one of now nine examples recorded and carrying a catalog value of $75,000.

In 1911, the publisher William Randolph Hearst offered a US$50,000 prize to the first aviator to fly coast to coast in less than 30 days. Calbraith Perry Rodgers took up the challenge, and sponsored by J. Ogden Armour, he named his privately owned Wright airplane, a Wright Model B after Armour’s new grape soft drink, Vin Fiz.

In addition to the Vin Fiz endorsement, Mabel Rodgers used the flight to promote an airmail service, and sold special 25-cent postage stamps for items to be carried on the aeroplane. They were semi-official; the Post Office tolerated them, but insisted that mail carry regular stamps in addition. The stamps were inscribed with "RODGERS AERIAL POST" and "VIN FIZ FLYER", with a picture of the airplane in the centre. Spink are delighted to be offering such a wonderful rarity this November.

The U.S. Possessions is quite strong with rarities from Canal Zone, Hawaii and Philippines. The auction concludes with over 40 lots of collections.
