WALTHAM, MASS.- Kim Conaty has been appointed Curator for the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University. Conaty comes to the Rose from The Museum of Modern Art in New York, where she was the Sue and Eugene Mercy, Jr., Assistant Curator of Drawings and Prints. In her new position, Conaty will play a key role in planning exhibitions and interpreting the Rose’s exceptional collection of post-war art, undertake significant research, and evaluate potential acquisitions. Conaty will join the Rose staff in December 2015.

Upon announcing her appointment, Christopher Bedford, Henry and Lois Foster Director of the Rose, stated, “I am delighted to welcome Kim as a creative partner during an historic period of ambitious growth for the Rose. Working together as a team, we will create innovative exhibitions and programs that support and expand the museum’s roles as an educational resource for the University, a center for community engagement, and a cultural hub for the city of Boston.“

“I am thrilled to join the Rose Art Museum, one of the leading university art museums in the country," says Conaty. “My own scholarship and interests strongly relate to the Rose’s collection and curatorial program, and I look forward to working with the Rose staff to continue building upon the museum's outstanding reputation through groundbreaking exhibitions, key acquisitions, and collaborations within the university."

In addition to actively pursuing new acquisitions of contemporary art (including works by Janice Kerbel, Daniel Joseph Martinez, and a major performance archive by William Pope.L), Conaty led a project team dedicated to MoMA's Gilbert and Lila Silverman Fluxus Collection, comprising some 8,000 works across multiple mediums, and was an active member of the cross-departmental research initiative C-MAP (Contemporary and Modern Art Perspectives in a Global Context) Eastern Europe, which studies experimental practices in the region.

She has regularly taught classes for MoMA Courses and has also published and lectured on a variety of topics, from Avalanche magazine and the artist interview to Wade Guyton, Jonathan Meese, and Gerhard Richter.

Prior to MoMA, she served as the Biennial Coordinator for the 2008 Whitney Biennial; Curatorial Fellow at the Grey Art Gallery, NYU; and a Curatorial Intern at the Busch-Reisinger Museum at Harvard University Art Museums and Clark Art Institute. The recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship to Germany in 2003 and a Clark Art Institute Summer Fellowship in 2014, Conaty earned her M.A. from Williams College, B.A. from Middlebury College, and is currently completing her Ph.D. at NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts.
