BEVERLY HILLS, CA.- A World Record price of $91,500 was realized for a case of 1985 Ponsot Clos de la Roche on Dec. 4, 2015 at
Heritage Auctions as the company's final Fine & Rare Wines Signature® Auction of 2015 steadily rose to a $2+ million finish.
"It came down to a bidding war between three clients in different parts of the world," said Frank Martell, Director of Fine & Rare Wines at Heritage Auctions. "They all recognized that this was a very rare case of wine with perfect provenance and, in the end, the winner paid almost double our $47,500 pre-auction estimate."
The auction reflected the strong demand for high quality Burgundy that has been seen throughout the market in 2015 and has driven a solid year for the Heritage Auctions Fine & Rare Wines category.
"The demand from collectors across the board has been for truly rare wines," said Martell, "all year long. Burgundy has led the way, especially with offerings like this amazing case of Ponsot."
