SINGAPORE.- Artworks from two influential ink artists have a new platform now as
National Gallery Singapore celebrated the official opening of the Wu Guanzhong Gallery and an exhibition by Singaporean artist Chua Ek Kay. Sam Tan, Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office and Ministry of Manpower, opened the exhibitions in a ceremony attended by family members of both artists and representatives from partner institutions that lent their collections.
The breadth and depth of the two exhibitions will help visitors explore the significance and development of modern ink painting. The Wu Guanzhong: Beauty Beyond Form exhibition one of the most comprehensive in recent times features both oil and ink paintings, many of which are on display for the first time in Singapore. Similarly, the Gallerys presentation of After the Rain marks the first historical survey of Chuas career by a national museum, covering his most important works and artistic interests, including the Singapore cityscape and reflections on nature.
The Wu Guanzhong: Beauty Beyond Form exhibition showcases works donated by the artist and his family to the National Collection. Of the more than 80 artworks on display, 22 are works on loan from key arts institutions in China and Hong Kong National Art Museum of China, China Art Museum, Shanghai, Hong Kong Museum of Art, Zhejiang Art Museum and Nanjing Museum.
