Christie's announces Old Master Drawings and Paintings Sales in New York |

NEW YORK, NY.- Christies announces that the Old Master and British Drawings auction on January 27 will be accompanied by a series of exhibitions and previews at its Rockefeller Center galleries from January 22 through February 7. Christies is partnering with the Royal Drawings School for its first exhibition in the United States (January 23 February 7), and collaborating with prominent dealers to present Christies first private selling exhibition in New York devoted to Old Master Paintings (January 22 - February 7). A selection of highlights from the new themed week of April sales, Classic Art Week, will be unveiled to the public this month including Old Master Paintings, Antiquities, Sculpture and Decorative Arts (January 23 29).
Old Master and British Drawings

Highlighting a selection of works from the late fifteenth century through the nineteenth century, the Old Master and British Drawings sale in New York offers drawings from Italian, French, British, Flemish and Dutch schools and features architectural drawings from the collection of Paul Walter. The auction includes the most celebrated draftsman of the European school such as Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, Théodore Géricault, Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo, Adriaen van de Velde, and Jean-Antoine Watteau, among others. With 131 lots, pre-sale estimates range from $800 to $200,000.
Old Master Paintings: A Private Selling Exhibition

Christies Old Master Paintings: A Private Selling Exhibition, features an exceptional selection of rare and important European pictures, in collaboration with the art worlds principal Old Master Painting dealers. Spanning a period from 1400 to 1800, the exhibition will offer works by artists such as Jan Provoost, Gaspar van Wittel, Jean-Batiste Oudry, Gaetano Gandolfi and Richard Parkes Bonington. This remarkable selling exhibition is an exciting opportunity to view the world of Old Masters through the discerning eye of the dealer. The view will be open to the public in the Christies West Galleries.
Royal Drawing School: A Private Selling Exhibition
Exhibition: January 23 February 7
Christies partnered with the Royal Drawings School for its first exhibition in the United States. Comprising over 70 works by alumni, faculty and artists closely associated with the Royal Drawing School, this selling exhibition will benefit the Schools Scholarship Fund. The Royal Drawing School was founded in 2000 by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to provide classes for teaching drawings from observation. The School offers two full-time courses with no tuition fees: the graduate-level Drawing Year for up to 30 students, and the Foundation Year for 45 high school graduates. In addition, the School runs a Young Artists program for over 200 children, and it holds more than 50 courses each term that are open to the public.

A grouping of highlights from Christies new themed week of April sales, Classic Art Week, will be unveiled to the public this January. This marquee week of sales will include Old Master Paintings, Sculpture, Antiquities and Christies signature Exceptional Sale of decorative arts. A new curated sale entitled Revolution will be the centerpiece of this auction series, and will feature masterworks from the 18th to the 20th centuries, including paintings, drawings, prints, photography and sculpture, which will explore the radical social, political and artistic changes that defined this period of history.
